I love the campfire. It feels like your in the middle of nowhere and you won’t bother anyone. Truth is there are million dollar homes all up and down the road. Some of the houses near the lake are way cool. Every morning I got up to see the sunrise and walked to the beach down to the end of the road and back. It felt like time stood still – so peaceful. This is God’s country. Michigan has such beautiful sunset’s so be sure to plan your evening so you are on the beach at that time. To sit on the beach and watch the sunset is so relaxing. I love the little cabin. With five kids, a husband and a dog I thought we would have been on top of each other but we never were. The shower is so nice to rinse off before you go inside and wonderful at the end of the day. We used the bikes at the cabin and enjoyed playing volleyball at the beach. We stayed for the week because Silver Lake was sold out and this was all we could find – sorry but that’s the truth. We finished a project early and all my programming buddies decided to celebrate at Silver Lake and rent dune buggies and just have some good clean fun. The plan was to sleep at the cabin and hang out at the beach on Silver Lake. Well we working boys must be getting old because we got to the cabin and got us a nice rip roaring big fire going. We cooked some steak outdoors and drank some beers and started story swapping. We laughed the entire night away. What a great time. We did this every night. We enjoyed the area so much we only went to Silver Lake once and found the hectic tourist environment distasteful after enjoying the peace at the cabin and the Pentwater area. We will be back and we are going to Pentwater and staying at the Sun Set Cabin – Shower is Way Cool. Congratulations on your remodel – A + job

I went reluctantly! I HATE to camp and to me this was camping. I am a hotel girl. It was first week of June and it was cold and rainy – not my idea of a vacation. I whined for two days. I was cold. My kids turned on the electric fireplace and toasted the place very fast. Now that I was warm I decided to brave the beach as it was sprinkling just a little and hovering around 50 degrees.

The beach is beautiful and I decided I would try to have some fun. My kids put on their bathing suits and went swimming in the outlet. Lake Michigan did see a few toes but no brave souls. We laughed, we played board games, we roasted marshmallows over a campfire, we explored the town. I was able to find myself again. The cabin is very clean – I did not see one ant or spider during the time I was there.

Now the shower had me puzzled. I just did not feel like going outside to take a shower – how weird is that anyway? With my new attitude I decided I would give it a try without complaining. I can honestly say this was the coolest shower I have ever taken. It gives you privacy and I felt safe but what was really cool is their really is hot water that comes from the ceiling of the shower. There is about a foot or so of screening at the top of the shower so you can see the tree branches and sky. So close to nature and is beyond words.

OK I am converted.

I will be back this year with my kids to play on the beach and enjoy Michigan’s many seasons. I would even bring my family and stay if it was cold and 50 degrees and raining. I am now wondering what else in life I am missing out on because I have been such a wimp. My kids are thrilled. I refer to our vacation as luxury camping and I prefer that to staying in hotel rooms. I called to schedule my next week. I am looking forward to taking a shower again. I guess anything IS possible. I highly recommend you stay in this very cute and comfortable cabin. Thank you.

Our stays at the West Michigan Cottage for Rent have always been the best time of our summer.  From the time we arrive, the sound of the waves against the beach has a calming effect.  There are so many things to do.  We walk to the pier one way or down to Kouw Park the other direction; we play beach volleyball or baseball, catch or frisbee, and have even set up an obstacle course!   We ride our bikes to Tunnel Park or Grand Haven and go to Holland to play tennis.  Captain Sundae’s is always a must at the end of the week to get some of their yummy ice cream! I think the thing we enjoy most, however, is playing in the cool waves and relaxing on the beach in the summer sun. Sunsets are something to look forward to every evening, as well as star-gazing once the sun has finally set. I can’t imagine anyplace else I would rather spend a week during the summer!

The cottage was perfect for our ladies getaway last summer. We all brought our bikes and biked into Grand Haven one day to have lunch and shop. We biked home in plenty of time to throw
some steaks on the grill and watch the sunset. Then it was time for all out fun playing euchre, hearts and even a crazy game of spoons! We laughed and laughed. When we left we were refreshed and renewed to go home and take care of our families again. I plan to make this an annual pilgrimage!

This is my favorite place to be; our whole family and friends love to come out and hang at the cottage with us. What we love best is big waves for body surfing, especially when the water is warm, but we will go in when it is cold too – it’s so much fun! I love to walk to the pier, it’s great exercise, and my youngest daughter loves when we walk to the park and run down the sand dune. At night we like to eat out on the porch and feel the breeze, then the kids usually want to go in swimming again and we watch the sunset from the beach. Cloudy days we can watch a movie or go into Grand Haven, Holland or Saugatuck to go shopping. We love to play cards at night and we all go to bed exhausted!

Fallin in Love with the Cottage on Lake Michigan
My family has visited this quaint well-stocked cottage on the lake for the past 7 years. This is one of our favorite summer destinations and we plan for this every summer. We love all the outdoor activities the area supports such as cycling, walks on the beach, body surfing, beach volleyball etc. We often bring our bikes for trips up to Grand Haven or sometimes we head south to Holland or Saugatuck. Even though we prefer to ride the roads, there are endless miles of bike specific trails which are more family friendly.

We love the simplistic yet clean accommodations and having a private beach. On rainy days the kids love making S’mores in the fireplace, making homemade ice cream or playing card games. There are 9 of us sharing the space and yet we never feel cramped with the 3 bedrooms and screened-in patio not to mention the entire lake shore to “spread out” on. Even having just the one bathroom has not been a problem, we just work out a schedule.

If we feel like dining out the options are endless. We love ethnic food and we have found fantastic Thai, Indian, and Vietnamese restaurants in Holland. The Holland Farmer’s Market on Saturdays is a real treat as well, offering a wide variety of locally grown foods which can be prepared back at the cottage.

This is a real get-a-away vacation spot and we anticipate coming back for many years to come!

Summers at the lake; it is how I spent my childhood from the day school got out until it started back up in the fall again. I have a lifetime of memories of walks on the beach, playing in the water, building the biggest and best sandcastles, and having friends come to stay for the week. It seemed like every night for dinner we would eat sweet corn on the cob and sliced tomatoes picked up from a roadside stand and top it off with some homemade strawberry shortcake. Then the whole family would sit on the porch and play cards, Kings on the Korner, 99, Hearts, Disassemble and many others, laughing and probably cheating too! Everyone would pause as the sun sank into the water and then we’d finish up our game. It would finally be dark enough to play flashlight tag or catch fireflies on the lawn. Sometimes we would even go skinny dipping! Every day of every summer I spent with my family of 5 and my grandpa and grandma too. I feel blessed to have spent all that time with them, and am still savoring those memories while now making new ones with my own family. There is absolutely no place on earth I would rather be…
